Math Is Racist According To Some Professors

University of Illinois Professor Gutierrez has a B.A. in Biology, an M.A. in Social Sciences, a PhD in Education and is an affiliate of the Latino studies department.

Rochelle Gutierrez, a professor at the University of Illinois, made the claim in a new anthology for math teachers, arguing that, “On many levels, mathematics itself operates as Whiteness. Who gets credit for doing and developing mathematics, who is capable in mathematics, and who is seen as part of the mathematical community is generally viewed as White.”

Gutierrez also worries that algebra and geometry perpetuate privilege, fretting that “curricula emphasizing terms like Pythagorean theorem and pi perpetuate a perception that mathematics was largely developed by Greeks and other Europeans.”

Math also helps actively perpetuate white privilege too, since the way our economy places a premium on math skills gives math a form of “unearned privilege” for math professors, who are disproportionately white. FrontPageMag

Lack of reasoning

“If one is not viewed as mathematical, there will always be a sense of inferiority that can be summoned,” she says, adding that there are so many minorities who “have experienced microaggressions from participating in math classrooms… [where people are] judged by whether they can reason abstractly.”

Gutierrez stresses that all knowledge is “relational,” asserting that “Things cannot be known objectively; they must be known subjectively.”  FrontPageMag

The professors claim math classes ‘inaccessible and oppressive’ to minority students so less reasoning and more social justice.

A group of professors argues in a newly-published book that math teachers must “live out social justice commitments” to fight privilege in the classroom.

According to the authors, math classes can be “inaccessible and oppressive” for students who don’t have the “privilege and power” enjoyed by their professors. CampusReform

Actually what these professors are saying:

Whites are good at math.  Minorities are not good at math.  So dumb it down.

What these racist professors are saying is that minorities have a lower IQ (which is NOT true) and cannot learn advanced math.

What should be the focus is the lack of basic math skills that were not learned in elementary, middle, and high school.

If a person applying to a University lacks basic skills the person would be better to apply to a community college that offers basic skills classes and tutoring services.

A chaotic and disorganized home life prevents children’s learn.

Children are arriving at primary school incapable of learning because of their ‘chaotic’ home lives, Michael Gove warned yesterday.

Teachers are having to deal with four- and five-year-olds in nappies who are unable to speak in sentences or distinguish between letters and numbers.

The Education Secretary said children are being harmed through not being brought up in nurturing families where their brains can develop and where they become socialised. DailyMail
