Legal technicalities and barriers like arbitrary statutes of limitations have been used to deny families recovery of art stolen from families by the Nazis. The Holocaust Expropriated Art Recovery Act of 2016 makes it easier for the heirs of victims of Nazi Germany to seek restitution in US courts.
The Holocaust Expropriated Art Recovery Act was first introduced by Texas Sens. John Cornyn and Ted Cruz, Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., and Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., in April …Specifically, the bill extends the statute of limitations for returning stolen artwork to six years from the date a piece of art was first identified as stolen and the identity of its real owner determined.” WashingtonExaminer
Germany will have to defend itself in US court for the first time over art allegedly looted by the Nazis, following a 31 March ruling by a Washington, DC federal judge that denied the country’s motion to dismiss a lawsuit seeking to recover the Guelph Treasure. The case is one of the first affected by the recently enacted Holocaust Expropriated Art Recovery (Hear) Act, which makes it easier for the heirs of victims of the Nazi regime to file restitution claims in the US.
In 1935, a consortium of German-Jewish dealers sold a collection of medieval relics and devotional art once owned by the House of Guelph to the state of Prussia. Their heirs, Alan Philipp, Gerald Stiebel and Jed Leiber, say the dealers were coerced by the Nazis into selling the work for barely 35% of its market value, and that they were targeted not only because they were Jewish but because they were considered traitors for trying to sell off Germany’s national treasures.
The plaintiffs say the sale was spearheaded by Hermann Goering and Adolf Hitler, who wanted to “save” the Guelph Treasure for the German Reich, and cite a letter from the mayor of Frankfurt requesting Hitler “create the legal and financial preconditions for [its] return”. After the sale, Goering presented it as a “surprise gift” to Hitler, according to court documents.
Germany and the state-run Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation (SPK), which administers Berlin’s Museum of Decorative Arts where the Guelph Treasure is now on display, contend that the transaction was a legitimate arm’s length negotiation, its low price explained by the Great Depression and the collapse of the German art market. Before that, the consortium had managed to sell 40 objects—almost half of the objects—to institutions and private collectors for a total of 2.5m Reichsmark. The remaining works were sold to the state of Prussia for 4.25m Reichsmark. Since the dealers paid 7.5m Reichsmark for the collection in 1929, they suffered a 10% loss in the overall sale.
Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly rejected the defendants’ argument for dismissal based on the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act, which prohibits lawsuits against other countries, but makes an exception where the government takes property in violation of international law. The Nazi’s systematic plunder of Jewish property “constitute[s] genocide and genocide… is a clear violation of international law”, Judge Kollar-Kotelly wrote. TheArtNewsPaper
The Guelph Treasure
The Guelph Treasure (German: Welfenschatz) is the collection of medieval ecclesiastical art originally housed at Brunswick Cathedral in Braunschweig, Germany. Most of the objects were removed from the cathedral in the 17th century and dispersed in the 1930s.
The Treasure takes its name from the princely House of Guelph of Brunswick-Lüneburg.
The Guelph Treasure passed from Brunswick Cathedral into the hands of John Frederick, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg, in 1671, and remained in the Court Chapel at Hanover until 1803.
In 1929 Ernest Augustus, Duke of Brunswick, sold 82 items to a consortium of Frankfurt art dealers Saemy Rosenberg, Isaak Rosenbaum, Julius Falk, Arthur Goldschmidt and Zacharias Hackenbroch. Items from the Treasure were exhibited in the United States in 1930–31.Cleveland Museum of Art purchased nine pieces and more were sold to other museums and private collectors.
In 1934 the remaining 40 pieces of the collection, which had been retained by several German-Jewish art dealers from Frankfurt, were purchased for 4.25 million Reichsmarks via Wilhelm Stuckart by the Prussian State under its Prime Minister Hermann Göring and displayed in Berlin.
The Berlin portion of the Guelph Treasure is now exhibited at the Bode Museum in Berlin. WOW
A beer truck was hijacked and plowed into crowds of people outside Stockholm’s largest shopping center. Up to three men were seen leaping from the truck and opening fire on officers and pedestrians at around 3pm. Two suspects were filmed being arrested but a third man seen on CCTV is still on the run and hiding. Prime minister Stefan Lofven says the truck crash “is an act of terror”.
Up to five people are believed to have been killed in a terrorist attack when a stolen truck rammed into shoppers in Stockholm before running through the city centre shooting at and stabbing pedestrians.
Three men were seen leaping from the lorry and opening fire on police who had surrounded the hijacked vehicle at around 3pm local time.
Police said the vehicle crashed into a group of people on the street outside a shopping centre after racing down six streets.
Hundreds of shoppers were seen fleeing for their lives after the articulated truck rammed into the corner of the building. Dozens were believed to have been injured.
The driver was said by witnesses to be wearing a balaclava. Two suspects are thought to have been arrested. At least one man is believed to be on the run wearing a green jacket, white shoes and a grey hoodie. DailyMail
The feminists moving out of no-go zones are not native Swedes. Swedish politician Nalin Pekgul was born in Turkey and no longer feels safe in the Stockholm suburb of Tensta she has lived in for over 30 years.
There is a statistic overrepresentation of immigrants and those of foreign descent in the rape statistics. Native born feminist in Swedish blame men. Not immigrants. Men. To say otherwise is to be labeled a racist.
The attention on these particular assaults has put many Swedish feminists in an uncomfortable place. They don’t want to play down the very real threat of sexual violence that all men potentially pose, but they don’t want that threat used as a political weapons against refugees. “It is very dangerous to racialize sexual harassment,” says Tiina Rosenberg, a founding member of Sweden’s feminist party, the Feminist Initiative, and a gender scholar and professor at Stockholm University. “There is a long post-colonial history of the white patriarchy trying to rescue the brown women from the brown men… There is a lot of [similar] racialized talk in the making today that is anti-migration, and we should be very careful about that. We should talk about all the harrassment against women. We should object and protest, but we should not make the distinction about people from another ethnic background that they are more violent than we are… because otherwise we find ourselves in a place of saying: ‘I’m not a racist, but…'” Time
Feminists in Stockholm are leaving areas like the notorious migrant-heavy no-go zones of Husby and Tensta because they say religious fundamentalists now rule those suburbs.
Nalin Pekgul is a self-described feminist and former member of parliament for the left wing Swedish Social Democrats. For over 30 years, she lived in the Stockholm suburb of Tensta but says that she no longer feels safe there. She claims Muslim fundamentalists have taken over and she doesn’t feel she can visit the centre of Tensta without being harassed, Swedish broadcaster SVT reports.
According to Ms. Pekgul, the situation for women in public life in the area has deteriorated over the past several years. She noted that there has been a rise in religious fundamentalism amongst the men in the area, many of whom come from migrant backgrounds. Pekgul attempted to combat the trend by organising coffee shop meetings but soon abandoned the idea.
“In Tensta I am a known face and I have no desire to stir up trouble when I get harassed,” Pekgul said explaining why she no longer goes into the centre of the suburb. When asked if she will remain in the suburb, she said: “I always hope that it will blow over. One should never forget that the vast majority here are cursing the fundamentalists.”
Zeliha Dagli, a former Left Party politician, did end up moving from the no-go suburb of Husby. Dagli described Husby as having self-appointed “morality police” who attempt to control women’s behaviour in the area. BreitBart
Cadbury, founded by Quaker John Cadbury in 1824, is dropping the word “Easter” from its Easter egg hunts this year. Instead, this year’s Easter campaign will be called the “Cadbury’s Great British Egg Hunt.”
Britain’s National Trust will hot some 300 hunts, including those at the Black Country at Wightwick Manor and Moseley Old Hall in Wolverhampton. But anger is growing over the chocolate company’s decision to take Easter out of Easter.
And now, the prime minister has jumped into the middle of the row between Cadbury and the Church of England. She says Cadbury’s decision to drop Easter is “absolutely ridiculous.”
“I’m not just a vicar’s daughter I’m a member of the National Trust as well,” She said, according to The Sun newspaper.
“I think the stance they have taken is absolutely ridiculous. I don’t know what they are thinking about frankly. Easter’s very important. It’s important to me. It’s a very important festival for the Christian faith for millions across the world. So I think what the National Trust is doing is frankly just ridiculous.” DailyWire
Removing any mention of religion in the public sphere is secularization. Removing Easter from the eggs removes any religious connotation.
And the link between Easter eggs and Jesus’ death and resurrection should be rather obvious. This is not because eggs have anything to do with Jesus’ resurrection, but it’s because hunting for Easter eggs is now a well-known tradition that occurs at Easter. And Easter is celebrated because of the resurrection of Christ. By removing Easter on the eggs, you’re removing whatever link it had to the holiday. Watch&Learn comment DailyWire
Archivists at Israel’s National Library have discovered a telegram sent by SS commander Heinrich Himmler to Haj Amin al-Husseini, the grand mufti of Jerusalem, in which he promises Nazi Germany’s help in fighting the Jews.
This letter sheds more light on the strong connection and shared goals of Nazi Germany and the Muslim Leader Mufti al Husseini.
The National Library has uncovered a telegram written by Heinrich Himmler and sent to Mufti al-Husseini, in which the Nazi leader expressed his support of the Palestinian struggle against the Jews.
Germany will stand firmly by the Palestinian people in their fight against the “criminal” Balfour Declaration, was the main message conveyed in the telegram that was recently uncovered in the archives of Israel’s National Library. The rare document, which the library assesses dates back to 1943, was written by infamous SS commander Heinrich Himmler and sent to Haj Amin al-Husseini, who served as the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem between 1921 to 1937.
The Nazi commander, who was one of the main masterminds behind the ‘Final Solution’ (the Nazi regime’s term for their plan to exterminate all of Europe’s Jews), wrote to the Muslim leader that “the joint recognition of the enemy, and the joint battle against him are what creates the firm allegiance between Germany and freedom-seeking Muslims all over the world.”
Himmler went on to tell the Mufti, who presided over the Palestinian territories during a particularly tumultuous period for the British Mandate ruling in the area, that his country was closely following the Palestinian resistance against the Balfour Declaration (the historic British document penned by Arthur James Balfour, the UK’s Foreign Secretary at the time, which openly supported “the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people.”)
“The National-Socialist movement of the great Germany has made its fight against world Jewry a guiding principle since its very beginning,” Himmler wrote. “For that reason it [the movement] has been closely following the battle of freedom-seeking Arabs- and especially in Palestine- against the Jewish invaders,” the Nazi leader added.
He finished his warm letter to the Mufti by writing: “In this spirit, I am happy to wish you on the first anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, warm wishes for the continuation of your battle until the big victory.”
This newly revealed document sheds more light on the strong connections historians have affirmed before between the Mufti and the top hierarchy of the Nazi regime. In 1937, the British Mandate sought to arrest al-Husseini due to his involvement in the Arab uprising. The Mufti fled to Lebanon and from there to Iraq, where he joined a pro-Nazi group that rebelled against the Iraqi regime and carried out a military coup in April 1941. When the coup failed, al-Husseini escaped to Nazi Germany, arriving in Berlin in November 1941. JPost
Update: Death toll 5 people – including police officer Keith Palmer, 48 – and 40 more injured. The terrorist has died, he was shot outside Parliament.
PM Theresa May’s statement:
A terrorist mowed down people with a car on Westminster Bridge. Then he continued in his car to Parliament Square, hitting the fence and injuring more people. The terrorist got out of his car and stabbed one policeman outside Parliament before he was shot by police.
At least 2 dead and several catastrophically injured in the terror attack.
At least two people are dead after a terror attacker brought carnage to central London today, mowing down pedestrians on Westminster Bridge before attacking police with a knife in the grounds of the Houses of Parliament.
At least 10 people were been hit by a vehicle on the bridge after a 4×4 drove into pedestrians and cyclists before crashing into the gates of Parliament.
An intruder, described by a witness as ‘middle-aged and Asian’, then managed to break into the grounds of the Parliament and stabbed a police officer before he was shot and injured. The policeman is feared to have since died.
An hour after the attack, paramedics removed a man, thought to be the attacker, from the scene after extensive CPR. Another body appeared to have been left on the ground covered by a red blanket.
A doctor at St Thomas’ Hospital has said one woman has died and a number of others have been hurt – including some with ‘catastrophic’ injuries.
Prime Minister Theresa May is said to have been bundled into a car by a plain-clothes police officer and driven quickly from the scene as the attack unfolded. She will chair a meeting of the Government’s emergency Cobra committee tonight.
Scotland Yard said the attack, which comes a year to the day after the terrorist atrocities in Brussels, is being treated ‘as a terrorist incident until we know otherwise’. DailyMail

Five Afghans claimed to be unaccompanied child refugees took an Afghan underaged boy (under 15) into the woods around Uppsala, Sweden, they raped and beat him for over an hour. One of the rapists filmed the attack and uploaded it to social media.
The district court sentenced 4 to a maximum of 15 months and 1 to 13 months in prison and no deportation back to Afghanistan.
A higher court has reversed their sentence and ordered the five to be deported.
Finally some sense in Sweden!
The five Afghans raped an underage boy in a sadistic fashion in Uppsala, but according to the district court, they should stay in Sweden since they could “be hit very hard by deportation”. But now the higher court has changed it all.
It was October 24, 2016 when the five men who claimed to be unaccompanied refugee children decided they would f*** the boy. They took him into a wooded area, where they took turns raping and beating him for over an hour.
When the Uppsala district criminal court judgment against the rapists was handed down in late December, the court decided that the perpetrators would stay in Sweden, since it could go badly for them if they were sent home to Afghanistan.
“The court finds… that on the basis of their age as well as the security situation in Afghanistan, they would be hit very hard by expulsion. The demand for expulsion is turned down for all defendants,” it said in the judgment.
But the Svea higher court issued a new judgment, and now all five so-called refugee children are to be deported. Among other reasons, the higher court based its judgment on the seriousness of the crime and the lack of connection to Sweden [on the part of the defendants]. GatesofVienna
This mess started because Erdogan is looking at the large number of Turks living in Europe, especially in Germany and the Netherlands, to help secure victory in the April 16 referendum that would amend the Turkish constitution and would give the presidency sweeping new powers.

The Netherlands, which holds general elections on Wednesday, had repeatedly said Cavusoglu was not welcome to campaign for Turkey’s April referendum in the country and refused his plane permission to land.
The Dutch decision to ban Cavusoglu from visiting came after Germany and other European nations also blocked similar campaign events. France24
The Netherlands’ refusaled to grant Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu’s airplane landing permission Saturday in the Dutch city of Rotterdam, where he was scheduled to address a “yes” rally.
But later, Turkey’s Family Minister Fatma Betul Sayan Kaya appeared at the scene after reportedly travelling by car overland from Germany.
She was stopped just outside the consulate by Dutch police, and after several hours of negotiations escorted back to the German border. France24

On Saturday, Erdogan reacted angrily to the decision, accusing the Dutch of being “the vestiges of Nazis”.
“They are the vestiges of the Nazis, they are fascists,” Erdogan told an Istanbul rally on Saturday, days after he angrily compared moves to block similar rallies in Germany to “Nazi practices”.
The war of words continued Sunday when Erdogan called on “all international organisations” to impose sanctions on the Netherlands, who he said was behaving “like a banana republic”. France24

Fighting age young men. Muslims countries refuse to take them in. Mass immigration with no vetting.
Sweden imprisoned a Syrian man asylum seeker to life in prison for participation in the 2012 mass execution of seven government troops in Syria. Now Germany. There is no doubt ISIS freaks are entering countries as refugees.
German police arrested two Syrians and a Bosnian Thursday for alleged war crimes in Syria, including mass murder of 36 people in 2013.
A Syrian refugee identified as Abdalfatah H. A., 36, is accused of being the executioner at a mass killing of 36 government employees in 2013. He’s a suspected member of the al-Qaida-linked Al-Nusra Front.
Abdulrahman A. A., 26, was also arrested for being part of the network. He is accused of managing funds, vehicles and weapons for one of Al-Nusra Front’s combat units.
A 33-year-old Bosnian was arrested for supplying vehicles to Sunni militia Junud al-Sham. The case is not related to the Syrians.
Germany has taken more than one million refugees since the start of 2015, with many seeking protection from the wars in Syria and Iraq. Federal police officers are investigating around 30 cases of possible war crimes committed by people currently in the country, according to Der Spiegel. DailyCaller
One young girl of 27 — let’s call her Lucy— is now terrified of going out alone. She lives near a busy shopping centre which draws migrants from no-go zones, and dreads her walk to work and home.
Under the bridge near her flat a gang of men gathers. All day and night. They have easy access to her up a stairwell. Like little billy goat gruff, she runs across, carrying her safety spray. Scared. DailyMail
“1 in 4 Swedish women will be raped as sexual assaults increase 500%. Sweden now has the second highest number of rapes in the world, after South Africa.” FrontPageMag
Police reports show that Germany’s migrant rape crisis continues unabated, although accurate statistics are notoriously non-existent, this in one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world. German authorities have repeatedly been accused of underreporting the true scale of the migrant crime problem in the country.
According to Federal Criminal Police Office (Bundeskriminalamt, BKA) data (page 14), in 2013, migrants (Zuwanderer) committed 599 sex crimes, or an average of two a day. In 2014, migrants committed 949 sex crimes, or around three per day. In 2015, migrants committed 1,683 sex crimes, or around five per day. During the first three quarters of 2016, migrants committed 2,790 sex crimes, or around ten per day. GateStoneInstitute
