Dangerous and False Palestinian “Unity”

palunityby Efraim Inbar
BESA Center Perspectives

As long as the military branch of Hamas remains independent, there is no Palestinian unity. Under the current accord, instead of the PA regaining lost Gaza, Hamas is gaining better access to the West Bank. The current Western stance, which supports the continuation of a fragmented Palestinian polity, makes the establishment of a stable Palestinian state more unlikely than ever. Moreover, acceptance of a growing role for Hamas is inimical to Israeli-Palestinian peaceful co-existence.

Questions Swirl Around Prisoner Exchange

question marks photoThere are many questions on the prisoner exchange of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl and 5 Gitmo terrorist.

Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl was captured in 2009 in Afghanistan.  At the time of his capture he was a private.  BreitBart reports that Bergdahl was promoted twice in captivity and is scheduled for another promotion in June to staff sergeant. Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl was held captive by the Taliban and was just released in a prisoner exchange that was arranged by the White House through negotiations with the Taliban.

Brad Knickerbocker at the  Christian Science Monitor reports that Bergdahl’s story is one of recovery, reunion with his family, and military debriefings.  “Those debriefings also will include difficult questions about how and why he happened to be in a position where he fell into the hands of Taliban fighters.”

At this point in the developing narrative, Sgt. Bergdahl seems to have grown disillusioned with the mission, bitter about the Army and especially higher ranking enlisted men and officers, and simply walked off – gone “outside the wire” or protective base limits – and disappeared.

There are questions surrounding the circumstances of Bergdahl’s capture with mixed reactions from the military community.

No Sign 5 Released Gitmo Terrorist Are Under Custody In Qatar

Brian Ross on ABC reported:

The terror group is calling their release a major victory. New video posted this morning on an Afghan news website shows the five former detainees arriving in Qatar with no sign they are under any sort of custody or guard.  Online video shows the men receiving a kind of hero welcome.

The Miami Herald quotes Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel that Qatar had agreed “to ensure that security measures are in place and the national security of the United States will not be compromised” by the release of the five men, all of whom had been placed on a list of terrorist suspects that the United States felt were too dangerous to release.

Captured Hamas Member Tells Shin Bet Hamas Funds Islamic Movement In Israel

Jerusalem Temple Mount
Jerusalem Temple Mount

The Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) announced Thursday that a senior Hamas operative,  was arrested last month as he tried to cross the border from Jordan into Israel.   The operative, Mahmoud Toama (Tuama), revealed during his interrogation Hamas ties to the Islamic Movement in Israel and its activities in Jerusalem.

Mahmoud Toama (Tuama), told Shin Be that Hamas funds the Islamic Movement religious lessons on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem to prevent Jews from entering the holy site.

According to Toama, Hamas has funded Islamic Movement projects in Jerusalem. One project paid for religious lessons for Arab youths on the Temple Mount, in an attempt to prevent Jews from entering the holy site. Hamas paid hundreds of youths NIS 4000-5000 per month to study at the site. The Shin Bet linked that project to an increase in the number of violent incidents and clashes with Muslim worshippers on the Temple Mount in recent months.

Guantanamo Bay Terrorists Released

Guantanamo BayThe White House agreed to a deal to release five Taliban leaders from Gitmo in return for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who had been held in Afghanistan since 2009. The DailyBeast reports that the five Guantanamo Bay prisoners being released are considered by some the worst of the worst.  The five prisoners to be released are: Mullah Mohammad Fazl, Mullah Norullah Noori, Abdul Haq Wasiq, Khairullah Khairkhwa and Mohammed Nabi Omari.  A 2008 Pentagon dossier on Guantanamo Bay inmates, all five men being released are considered to be a high risk to launch attacks against the United States and its allies if they were liberated.

Palestinian Unity Government Runs into Obstacles

Differences between Fatah and Hamas may delay the formation of a Palestinian unity government. The unity government was expected to be announced on Thursday it has been delayed to Monday.   There seems to be three major issues that Fatah and Hamas  have not agreed on.

The sources told the Palestinian Al-Quds newspaper that one of the obstacles hindering the formation of the unity government is related to the status of the Palestinian security forces.  Hamas has rejected the idea of permitting Fatah-dominated security forces to return to the Gaza Strip, they said.

Palestinians Merge Images of Jesus In Classical Art with Pictures of Palestinians

The Incredulity of Saint Thomas

For Pope Francis’ visit to Israel and the Palestinian Authority, the PA commissioned an art exhibit that merged classical works of art portraying biblical scenes with photos of Palestinians, a flagrant misrepresentation of Jesus.

Raphael's The Deposition, (1507), which shows the dead Jesus being carried to his tomb. In the Palestinian version, Jesus' legs have been replaced by a photo of the wounded legs of a Palestinian, being carried away by a man as an Israeli soldier looks on.

“These images were requested specifically for the Pope’s visit,” Itamar Marcus, founder and director of Palestinian Media Watch (PMW), told FoxNews.com.

“The paintings clearly depict Jesus blending in with Palestinians. This is an ongoing and important part of Palestinian ideology as demonstrated on December 23 last year when, in his annual message to Christians, [PA president] Mahmoud Abbas referred to the birth of Jesus Christ as a Palestinian messenger of peace, attempting to give them [the Palestinians] a history they don’t have. The same message has been repeated throughout the Palestinian establishment, including by the Grand Mufti, and others.”

The Incredulity of Saint Thomas (1602), by Caravaggio, the doubting Thomas inspects the wounds of Jesus to verify his resurrection. In this modified version of the artwork, the wounded part of Jesus' body has been replaced with a photo of a Palestinian's identity card, clearly identifying Jesus as a Palestinian. Thomas, presumably representing an Israeli soldier, inspects the card.

White House tending toward working with terror group Hamas

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas

A unity government is set to be established within a week by Fatah and Hamas.

Hamas is classified as a terrorist group by the United States government.  Hamas is a terrorist group that has a genocide ideology to exterminate Jews and any person who has a different belief.

Hamas’ Charter calls for the annihilation of Israel in the first paragraph. “Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it”

This is not a group that will recognize Israel and commit to nonviolence!  The “the new government will be made up of technocrats”; frontmen who will supposedly run this  new unity government and represent it publicly.

Despite Israel’s position, the U.S. administration is tending toward cooperating with the soon-to-be-formed Palestinian unity government, even if Hamas as an organization does not accept the conditions of the Mideast Quartet to recognize Israel, honor previous agreements and abandon violence.
