Amer Ahmad, former Mayor Rahm Emanuel aid, was arrested at an airport in Lahore, Pakistan, when he was on the run to avoid a prison sentence. Authorities confiscated $176,000, 17,000 in Euros and a fake passport. While working for Democratic Treasurer Kevin Boyce (Ohio House of Representatives), Ahmad steered state business to his financial adviser in exchange for more than $500,000 in kickbacks. Amer Ahmad plead guilty in December to bribery, conspiracy to commit bribery, money laundering, and wire fraud.
Ahmed was under investigation 5 months before Emanuel hired him in Chicago. Amer Ahmed was indicted weeks after he resigned as Emanuel’s hand-picked comptroller. He was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment and $3.2 million in restitution.
