Video: ‘Beating up fascists is good,’ college students say

“Beating up fascists is good.”

what is most troubling is that these anti-free speech beliefs and tactics are not simply embraced by a radical fringe. A recent Brookings Institute study found that a majority of students believe that disrupting speakers to silence them is “acceptable” and one in five students (19%) endorse the use of violence to silence an “offensive” speaker. A plurality of students believe that “hate speech” is not covered by the First Amendment, despite Supreme Court precedent establishing otherwise.  DailyWire

Campus Reform

As acts of political violence in America increase in regularity, a new poll shows that many college students have no problem with it.

Of those surveyed, a startling 19 percent claimed to support the use of violence to silence speakers they find offensive, the same perspective held by the increasingly violent Antifa groups around the country.

Wanting to see what college students in Washington, D.C. thought of Antifa, Campus Reform took to the campus of American University to ask students their opinion of the violent leftist organization recently labeled a domestic terror organization by the Department of Homeland Security.

Immediately, the students made it clear that they had no problem with the controversial group. CampusReform

Public School Teachers Behind Violent Antifa Group

Public school teachers are leaders among in an Antifa faction – By Any Means Necessary (BAMN); a violent anarchist organization that DHS has classified as carrying  out “domestic terrorist violence” are teaching children in public schools; filling their heads with Antifa rot and that violence works.

Public school teachers are behind a leading far-left militant group that is part of the Antifa network that federal officials say is committing “domestic terrorist violence.”

By Any Means Necessary, which has played a key role in riots in Berkeley, Sacramento and elsewhere, has dozens of public school teachers among its members, including among its most prominent leaders.

The FBI and Department of Homeland Security began paying closer attention to Antifa groups in general after BAMN and other extremists started a riot and attacked marchers at a white nationalist rally in Sacramento last July, Politico reported on Friday. The Sacramento violence left at least 10 people hospitalized, several of whom had knife wounds….

After BAMN and other antifa groups staged violent protests in Berkeley to keep right-wing author Milo Yiannopoulos from speaking, Felarca defended her group’s acts of violence. BAMN was able to cancel another event, this time an April speech by pro-Trump author Ann Coulter, by promising a repeat performance of the Milo riots.

The FBI and DHS say Antifa groups like BAMN are engaging in “domestic terrorist violence,” according to the Politico report.

Just last weekend, Felarca helped organize BAMN’s mass demonstrations that “shut down” an anti-Marxism rally in Berkeley. As with BAMN’s other organized actions, left-wing actors at Saturday’s demonstrations violently attackedpeaceful protesters. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi condemned the Antifa violence in Berkeley, while Felarca called BAMN’s actions a “resounding success.” DailyCaller

By Any Means Necessary (BAMN) most prominent organizer is Yvette Felarca, a Berkeley middle school teacher and pro-violence anarchist.

Homeland Security Makes it Official: Antifa Classified As Domestic Terrorists

About time!

Federal authorities have been warning state and local officials of Antifa’s increasingly dangerous tactics — including attacks on the police — since early 2016 but were widely ignored long before Charlottesville and while Barack Obama was still president, Politico reported.  NewsMax

Politico:

Since well before the Aug. 12 rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, turned deadly, DHS has been issuing warnings about the growing likelihood of lethal violence between the left-wing anarchists and right-wing white supremacist and nationalist groups.

Previously unreported documents disclose that by April 2016, authorities believed that “anarchist extremists” were the primary instigators of violence at public rallies against a range of targets. They were blamed by authorities for attacks on the police, government and political institutions, along with symbols of “the capitalist system,” racism, social injustice and fascism, according to a confidential 2016 joint intelligence assessment by DHS and the FBI.

After President Donald Trump’s election in November, the antifa activists locked onto another target — his supporters, especially those from white supremacist and nationalist groups suddenly turning out in droves to hail his victory, support crackdowns on immigrants and Muslims and to protest efforts to remove symbols of the Confederacy.

Those reports appear to bolster Trump’s insistence that extremists on the left bore some blame for the clashes in Charlottesville and represent a “problem” nationally.

Though it reportedly exists without a leader or official chain of command, Antifa members are connected and operate much like terrorist cells do, and in April of 2016, a joint report by the FBI and DHS members spend weeks planning for violence at selected events, Politico reported. NewsMax

At the Sacramento rally, antifa protesters came looking for violence, and “engaged in several activities indicating proficiency in pre-operational planning, to include organizing carpools to travel from different locations, raising bail money in preparation for arrests, counter-surveilling law enforcement using three-man scout teams, using handheld radios for communication, and coordinating the event via social media,” the DHS report said. Politico

“Both the racists and a segment of violent Antifa counter-protestors are amped for battle in an escalating arms race, where police departments are outmaneuvered, resulting in increasingly violent dangerous confrontations,” former New York City police officer Brian Levin, who has been monitoring domestic militants for 31 years, told Politico. “It’s an orchestrated dance. The rallies spill over into social media and then even more people show up at the next rally primed for violent confrontation.”

Also in that April 2016 report, the FBI and DHS warned that Antifa would get more violent if “fascist, nationalist, racist or anti-immigrant parties obtain greater prominence or local political power in the United States, leading to anti-racist violent backlash from anarchist extremists,” Politico reported.

Further, Politico reports that some of the Antifa terrorists traveled to Turkey to train with kindred organizations, including two fighting against ISIS. NewsMax

The man seen in the 3TV/CBS 5 video getting hit with a non-lethal round after kicking a gas canister at officers was booked into jail Thursday night on four criminal charges, Phoenix police announced.

Joshua Stuart Cobin, 29, from Scottsdale, was booked on three felony counts of aggravated assault on police and one misdemeanor count of unlawful assembly.

Cobin identified himself as the man seen on a now-viral video kicking a can of tear gas back at police officers during Tuesday night’s protests of President Donald Trump. Seconds later, an officer hit Cobin with a non-lethal gas round in the pelvic area, dropping him to the ground.

Another man in a Colin Kaepernick jersey helped Cobin out of the line of fire.  Cobin defended his actions in an interview Wednesday.  AZFamily

Violence Erupted At A Boston Free Speech Rally

Thousands of Antifa and BLM anarchist swarmed  a free speech rally in Boston on Saturday afternoon.

A Boston, Mass., free speech rally was cut short after police officers escorted the participants from the premises early Saturday afternoon.

The “Free Speech” rally, hosted in the Boston Common for “libertarians, conservatives, traditionalists, classical liberals, Trump supporters or anyone else who enjoys their right to free speech,” ended about an hour after it started, with Boston police officers showing up to escort some of the participants from the area, reports MassLive.

Only about 40-60 people showed up in support of the free speech event, while thousands of counter-protesters [Antifa and BLM anarchist] came out to rally against the “Free Speech”   DailyCaller

After the event was cut short Antifa and BLM squared off against riot police. The police officers were attacked with rocks and bottles of urine.   500 police officers were put on the streets of Boston.  33 were arrested for disruptive behavior.

Charlottesville Mayor: Car Attack Shows Need To Limit Concealed Carry

This makes no sense.

Not one shot was fired.  However I do remember seeing bats, clubs, and metal pipes.  Also police standing back and doing nothing. The mayor should be held accountable for the violence.

Charlottesville Mayor Mike Signer (D) addressed the August 12 car attack that killed Heather Heyer, suggesting it highlights the need to limit concealed carry.

He said he supports the Second Amendment, and is even “friends with many gun owners,” but he thinks more restrictions are necessary following the rally in which a car attack took an innocent life.

According to the Atlantic, Signer said, “While I am…a strong supporter of the Second Amendment, that right, like all Constitutional rights, comes with limits.” He then said, “Just as machine guns cannot be owned by civilians in this country…it should not be acceptable to open-carry or concealed-carry firearms at an event of the sort we saw last weekend.” BreitBart

The Real Race War

Nigal Farage:

“The idea that an organization that calls itself ‘anti-fascist’, ‘against fascism’, that professes itself to be for ‘love’, and ‘hope’, and ‘optimism’ in my personal experience, over the course of the last few years, many people in those groups I have personally seen are some of the most unpleasant and violent people I’ve ever seen. There is a very hard-left, intolerant fascism that occurs on the left, as well as those on issues of race or religion on the far-right.”

David Horowitz:

The tragedy in Charlottesville could have been an occasion to stop and consider how the tolerance for politically correct violence and politically correct hatred is leading the nation towards civil war. Instead the media and the political left have turned this incident into the biggest fake news story of the summer, transforming its real lessons into a morality play that justifies war against the political right, and against white people generally.

The organizers of the “Unite the Right” demonstration in Charlottesville were repellent racists. But they came to defend a historic monument honoring a complex man and cause, and not to attack it or presumably anyone else. They applied for a permit and were denied. They re-applied successfully in a petition supported by the local ACLU. If they had come to precipitate violence, why would they have gone to the tedious trouble of applying for a permit? Who knows what – if anything – would have happened if that had been the end of the story and no one had showed up to oppose them.

What “Unite the Right” actually demonstrated was that the assortment of neo-Nazis, pro-Confederates and assorted yahoos gathered under the banner of the “Alt-Right” is actually a negligible group. This was a national show of strength that actually attracted only a few hundred people. Compare that to the tens of the thousands who can readily be marshalled by two violent groups of the left – Black Lives Matter and Antifa – and you get an idea of how marginal “white supremacists” are to America’s political and cultural life.

Yet “white supremacy” and its evils became the centerpiece of all the fake news reporting on the event, including all the ludicrous attacks on the president for not condemning enough a bogeyman the whole nation condemns, and that no one but a risible fringe supports. Talk about virtue signaling! Omitted from the media coverage were the other forces at work in precipitating the battle of Emancipation Park, specifically Black Lives Matter and Antifa, two violent leftwing groups with racial agendas who came to squelch the demonstration in defense of the monument.

Unlike the Unite the Right demonstrators, the leftist groups did not have a permit for Emancipation Park (they had permits for two nearby parks). But why should they need a permit, since the havoc they had previously wreaked in Ferguson, Berkeley, Sacramento, Portland and other cities, was accomplished without permits, while their criminality was presented by the media as “protests,” and their rioting went completely unpunished.

In short, there were two demonstrations in Charlottesville – a legal protest by “Unite the Right” and one protest by the vigilantes of Antifa and Black Lives Matter. Who started the fight is really immaterial. Both sides were prepared for violence because these conflicts are already a pattern of our deteriorating civic life. Once the two sides had gathered in the same place, the violence was totally predictable. Two parties, two culpabilities; but except for the initial statement of President Trump, condemning both sides, only one party has been held accountable, and that happens to be the one that was in the park legally.

What is taking place in the media accounts and political commentaries on this event is an effort by the left to turn the mayhem in Charlottesville into a template for their war against a mythical enemy – “white supremacy” – which is really a war on white people generally.  TruthRevolt

One Easy Way Democrats Can Stop Neo-Nazis

Greenfield:  Charlottesville is what happens when the Left empowers extremists.

In Dallas, a black nationalist activist shot and killed 5 police officers at a Black Lives Matter anti-police rally. Instead of condemning BLM, Barack Obama defended a racist hate group whose role model is Assata Shakur, a wanted black nationalist cop killer, at the funerals of the murdered officers.

The left killed civil rights and replaced it with black nationalism. The racial supremacism of black nationalism that killed those officers is everywhere.  Ta-Nehisi Coates and Ibram X. Kendi are lionized as brilliant thinkers instead of hateful racists, Amazon has ordered a black nationalist secessionist fantasy from Aaron McGruder and Showtime aired ‘Guerilla,’ a miniseries glamorizing Black Panther terrorism.

But racism is a two-way street. So is violence. Extremists feed into each other.

You can’t legitimize one form of racism without legitimizing all of them. The media may advance this hypocritical position. Obama used the shameful “reverse racism” euphemism that distinguishes between black and white racism. But propaganda and spin don’t change the physics of human nature.

Either all racism is bad. Or all racism is acceptable.

Charlottesville is what happens when you normalize racism and street violence. Every normalization of extremism equally normalizes the extremism of the opposite side.

A civil society depends on a consensus. ‘Racism is bad’ is an example of such a consensus. If you normalize black nationalism, you will get more white nationalism. If you normalize leftist street violence against Trump supporters, you will also get more street violence against leftists.

Extremists want to eliminate the consensus of civil society. They want to destroy the idea that there’s any solution except violence through confrontations that show the helplessness of civil society.

That’s true of black nationalists and white nationalists, of Communists and Nazis, of Antifa and  Vanguard, of the tankies and hipster Nazis of the Alt-Left and the Alt-Right. They’re a set of evil twins and when you unleash one, you unleash the other. Their real enemies aren’t each other, but everyone in the middle. The bourgeois normies who don’t want to replace society with their totalitarian nightmare.

Street violence raises the bar so that only the violent will participate in protests. If you “no platform” campus speakers, then the only speakers you get will be those willing to face bomb threats, arson, and physical assaults. If you fire people for their views, political activism becomes the province of anonymous trolls and unemployed street thugs. Extremism limits political discourse to extremists.

If Democrats really want to stop the rise of Neo-Nazi violence, there’s a very easy way. Stop normalizing black nationalism and the Alt-Left. End the racist witch hunts for white privilege. Make it clear that street violence is unacceptable and that racism is bad no matter who it comes from. Allow people you disagree with to express their views without trying to destroy their lives. The New White Nationalism in America: Its Challenge to Integration
by Carol M. Swain

Gov. McAuliffe In Charlottesville ‘No Place In America’ For Alt-Right, Does Not Condemn Antifa

“We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry, and violence on many sides,” the president said.

I saw more than one group present in Charlottesville, VA.– far right and far left.   The one getting little mention is Antifa, which New Jersey has labeled a domestic terrorist organization.  An investigation into the violence in Charlottesville should include all groups that were there – white supremacist, black lives matters, and antifa.

On Main Street, after the initial violence, hard leftists sang songs, re-purposing Lady Gaga’s hit song “Paparazzi” with the words “pop a Nazi”. One man told me he was told it was the “wrong day to be white in this town,” while the abandoned stores and bars sported signs that read: “We kindly ask to respect our policy to not bring weapons inside our restaurant or on our patio”.

In the mid afternoon — after protesters were run over by a car, leaving one dead — stick-wielding left-wing activists roamed the streets aimlessly in groups of four or five. One such group screamed: “F**k Donald Trump,” as a girl — clearly unrelated to either side — walked past them.

A few hours later, McAuliffe took the opportunity to address the nation from the stage of the Albemarle County office building, flanked by local officials, as well as a man in a t-shirt which read “Menace II Supremacy”.

McAuliffe flipped back and forth between urging for calm and unity, and demanding division while insisting pro-Confederate statue protesters were persona non grata in his Commonwealth.

He lauded presidents Jefferson and Washington, but ran entirely contrary to their commitments to free speech by declaring of protesters: “There is no place for you in America”.

Insisting “we were here to bring people together and unify folks”, he added “We are a nation of immigrants… unless you’re native American”.

“Please go home and never come back,” he said to Unite the Right protesters, adding: “Take your hatred and take your bigotry”.

Instead of a call for dialogue, or even trying to explain what would be a totally reasonable and easily-made argument against flying Nazi flags or torch-lit demonstrations, he chose to further drive a wedge, as did those who flanked him on stage.

“They’re going to be in the trash heap of history,” said the Charlottesville mayor, while police chief Al Thomas defended the police strategy on the day. Despite having had weeks of notice, as well granting a protest permit to alt-right protesters, there were three fatalities and many injured. In an oddly nativist tone, he declared “outsiders do not tell our story”.

The media tone is also evidently one-sided. While no one — including this website — would take up the cause of defending the actions of the alt right or Nazi flag wavers, it is important to note how quickly many have chosen to lump the blame at the doorstep of President Donald Trump.

CNN issued a push notification to app users’ mobile devices around 8:30pm local time stating: “President Trump fails to condemn the alt-right and white supremacists in his statement about violence in Charlottesville, Virginia”.

No such accusations were hurled by the establishment media at Democrat leaders when a Bernie Sanders supporter shot at Republican congressmen in June.

In brief, it can be said with demonstrable authority that while Republicans and conservatives are very swift to decry extremists claiming to act in the name of their causes, the left do no such thing. In fact, they continue to fund and support antiFa and radical elements in their ranks, scarcely asked questions by the establishment media, and without any contritition for the divisions caused as a result.

I asked Gov. McAuliffe four times tonight to condemn in equal measure the violence of antiFa. I didn’t want him to rescind criticism of the alt right. I didn’t expect him to be nuanced. But I did think — perhaps foolishly — that he might want to distance himself from violent tactics on both sides. I supposed wrong.  BreitBart

Charlottesville, Sacramento, Berkeley — we’re watching a microcosmic re-enactment of Weimar Republic brownshirt-vs.-reds violence in real-time, complete with the same flags being flown. Just as then, some leadership condemning the evil of alt-right white supremacy, the viciousness of hard-left Marxism, and the violence anyone commits in violation of basic rights should be unceasing and thunderous.

And so the problem is likely to metastasize.  DailyWire

Police told to stand down?  That needs to be investigated.

Dane Powell, Trump Inauguration “Protester” Sentenced To 4 Months in Prison

Dan Powell plead guilty to “charges of felony rioting and felony assault on a police officer.

The first of more than 200 protesters criminally charged with rioting during President Trump’s inauguration was sentenced to four months behind bars Friday after pleading guilty to a pair of felonies.

Dane Powell, 31, was arrested along with 233 others on January 20 and initially faced a total of 14 charges before pleading guilty in April to rioting and assaulting a police officer.

Powell had traveled from Florida to peacefully protest Mr. Trump’s swearing-in but “got carried away,” his attorney, Ashley Jones, said during Friday’s sentencing hearing in Washington, D.C., The Tampa Bay Times reported.

Indeed, investigators showed video evidence during Friday’s hearing of Powell breaking windows and throwing rocks at police officers during a destructive Inauguration Day melee on the streets of D.C.

Powell conceded in court filings to participating in a “black bloc” protest in which over 200 people wore “black or dark colored clothing, gloves, scarves, sunglasses, ski masks, gas masks, goggles, helmets, hoodies and other face-concealing and face-protecting items to conceal their identities.”

Powell “admitted being part of a group of rioters who moved approximately 16 blocks over a period of more than 30 minutes,” the Justice Department said in press release Friday. “He also admitted that he participated in breaking windows at two businesses and throwing a brick, large rock, or piece of concrete at uniformed law enforcement officers during the riot.”

“He initiated violence,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Kerkhoff said at Friday’s hearing. “He came to the District of Columbia to engage in violence by hiding his face, throwing rocks and running. He’s a violent coward.”

“He was throwing rocks and bricks at windows where people, customers and children were inside,” she said. “He charged the police line with bricks.”

Prosecutors sought and received a 36-month sentence for Powell, a U.S. Army veteran, but D.C. Superior Court Judge Lynn Leibovitz suspended all but four months on condition he successfully complete two years of supervised probation. WashingtonTimes
