Terror In The U.K. – Explosion At Manchester Arena

22 killed and 119 injured , one of Britain’s deadliest attacks in years, at pop star Ariana Grande concert, a favorite of pre-teens.

At least 22 people, children among them, died in a suicide attack at an Ariana Grande concert at Britain’s Manchester Arena late Monday night.

The Islamic State group on Tuesday said one of its members “planted bombs in the middle of crowds,” the Associated Press reported.

According to police, the bomber died when he detonated an improvised explosive device near one of the arena’s exits at 10:33 p.m. local time (5:33 p.m. ET) on Monday. Another 59 people were injured, several from the pandemonium that ensued as concert goers rush to flee the scene.

Police arrested a 23-year-old man in South Manchester on Tuesday morning in connection with the bombing. Prime Minister Theresa May also said the authorities believe they know the identity of the man who carried out the bombing.

May said “many” children were among the dead and injured.

The first confirmed fatality was Georgina Callender, 18. She was an Ariana Grande “superfan” from Lancashire who in 2015 met her idol, who posed for pictures with her young fan. An 8-year-old girl was also known dead but her name has not been released [ Saffie Rose Roussos].

President Trump says the attack preyed on “innocent children,” adding that this “wicked ideology must be obliterated. And I mean completely obliterated.” DailyWire

Almost Half Of Britons Now Identify As Non-Religious

“Equally interesting, however, is the fact that in recent years – since 2009 – ‘No religion’ has stopped growing as a share of the population. It’s by no means in decline, of course, but we’re no longer seeing year-on-year increases”,  stated Professor Stephen Bullivant, Director of the Benedict XVI Centre and author of the report.

According to ‘The “No Religion” Population of Britain’ report by Stephen Bullivant, professor of theology and the sociology of religion at St Mary’s University, Twickenham, non-religious people, known as ‘nones’, account for 48.6 percent of Britain’s population.

Although there has been an overall trend towards secularization in Britain, the figures also show record numbers of people from non-Christian faiths, such as Islam and Hinduism.

The number of British people identifying as Christian dropped from 55 percent to 43 percent between 1983 and 2015. By contrast, non-Christian believers such as Muslims and Hindus quadrupled.

“The rise of the non-religious is arguably the story of British religious history over the past half-century or so,” Bullivant said.

“Looking at the long-term pattern, the non-religious share of the population has shown strong growth over our whole period,” the report states.

“The year 2009 was the first in which nones outnumbered all Christians put together.

“With the single exception of 2011, this pattern has held ever after. In two years, 2009 and 2013, nones formed a majority of the adult British population.”

However, the research, carried out with data from the annual British Social Attitudes survey and the biennial European Social Survey, also highlights how the falling number of worshipers with the Church of England seems to have stabilized.

Bullivant said patriotism might be driving this trend, as Christianity and Englishness tend to be conflated. RT

Non-religious and pray

A quarter of people who say they have no religion admit to praying, a report has found.

Nearly one in four people in Britain who claim to be non-religious say that prayer forms a part of their life, while a similar proportion admit to attending religious services.

The study by the Benedict XVI Centre for Religion at St Mary’s University, Twickenham, found that nearly half the British population now identifies as non-religious – however, nearly three fifths of these still profess some level of personal religiousness.

Around four per cent of people who claim to be non-religious even admit to praying daily, with over a quarter of non-religious over-75s praying at least monthly. CatholicHerald

Decline and Recovering

Prof Bullivant, a professor of theology and the sociology of religion at St Mary’s University, Twickenham, told The Observer newspaper: “We’ve seen a vast shedding of nominal Christianity, and perhaps it’s now down to its hardcore.”

Prof Bullivant said that the Church was recovering after losing a lot of believers after the publication of Richard Dawkins’ The God Delusion in 2006.

He told The Telegraph that the release of Dawkins’ book had stopped a lot of latent Anglicans from describing themselves as Christian.

Prof Bullivant said: “That book was really aimed at those people who said they were Anglican but didn’t really believe in God. So a lot of them stopped ticking Anglican on the forms and started to tick atheist instead.”

He also suggests a link between patriotism and Christianity, stating “People see Christianity as an expression of Englishness”. Premier

New Hope In Treatment For Dementia And Alzheimer’s Disease

This is encouraging news.

If you have a parent who’s suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and you’re worried about the future, there may be really good news for you and your parents: scientists in Great Britain may have found a solution to stop all neurodegenerative brain diseases, including dementia.

Prior to the most recent discovery, the best scientists could do was terminate brain cells dying in an animal in 2013. Unfortunately the drug used caused organ damage.

But now, two drugs used at the MRC Toxicology Unit in Leicester have been safely used in people. Prof Giovanna Mallucci, from that unit, is so excited she wants to start human clinical trials on dementia patients. DailyWire

Two drugs that show potential are already being used on humans

Two were shown to prevent both a form of dementia and prion disease by stopping brain cells dying.

Prof Mallucci told the BBC News website: “Both were very highly protective and prevented memory deficits, paralysis and dysfunction of brain cells.”

The best known drug of the pair is trazodone, which is already taken by patients with depression.

The other, DBM, is being tested in cancer patients.  BBC.

Drugs have potential to work on several conditions

Dr Doug Brown, director of research and development at Alzheimer’s Society said: “We’re excited by the potential of these findings.

“They show that a treatment approach originally discovered while researching prion disease might also work to prevent the death of brain cells in some forms of dementia.

“This research is at a very early stage and has not yet been tested in people – but as one of the drugs is already available as a treatment for depression, the time taken to get from the lab to the pharmacy could be dramatically reduced.”

“The drug blocks a natural defence mechanism in cells which is overactive in the brains of people with frontotemporal dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s, so has the potential to work for several conditions.

“So far it has only been tested in mice with frontotemporal dementia but Alzheimer’s Society is now funding the researchers to test it in models of Alzheimer’s too.” Leicester Mercury

Cadbury Dropping Word ‘Easter’ From Egg Hunts

What cads.

Cadbury, founded by Quaker John Cadbury in 1824, is dropping the word “Easter” from its Easter egg hunts this year. Instead, this year’s Easter campaign will be called the “Cadbury’s Great British Egg Hunt.”

Britain’s National Trust will hot some 300 hunts, including those at the Black Country at Wightwick Manor and Moseley Old Hall in Wolverhampton. But anger is growing over the chocolate company’s decision to take Easter out of Easter.

And now, the prime minister has jumped into the middle of the row between Cadbury and the Church of England. She says Cadbury’s decision to drop Easter is “absolutely ridiculous.”

“I’m not just a vicar’s daughter I’m a member of the National Trust as well,” She said, according to The Sun newspaper.

“I think the stance they have taken is absolutely ridiculous. I don’t know what they are thinking about frankly. Easter’s very important. It’s important to me. It’s a very important festival for the Christian faith for millions across the world. So I think what the National Trust is doing is frankly just ridiculous.”  DailyWire

Removing any mention of religion in the public sphere is secularization. Removing Easter from the eggs removes any religious connotation.

And the link between Easter eggs and Jesus’ death and resurrection should be rather obvious. This is not because eggs have anything to do with Jesus’ resurrection, but it’s because hunting for Easter eggs is now a well-known tradition that occurs at Easter. And Easter is celebrated because of the resurrection of Christ. By removing Easter on the eggs, you’re removing whatever link it had to the holiday. Watch&Learn comment DailyWire

Terrorist Attack On U.K. Parliament

Update:  Death toll 5 people – including police officer Keith Palmer, 48 – and 40 more injured.  The terrorist has died, he was shot outside Parliament.

PM Theresa May’s statement:

A terrorist mowed down people with a car on Westminster Bridge.  Then he continued in his car to Parliament Square, hitting the fence and injuring more people.  The terrorist got out of his car and stabbed one policeman outside Parliament before he was shot by police.

At least 2 dead and several catastrophically injured in the terror attack.

At least two people are dead after a terror attacker brought carnage to central London today, mowing down pedestrians on Westminster Bridge before attacking police with a knife in the grounds of the Houses of Parliament.

At least 10 people were been hit by a vehicle on the bridge after a 4×4 drove into pedestrians and cyclists before crashing into the gates of Parliament.

An intruder, described by a witness as ‘middle-aged and Asian’, then managed to break into the grounds of the Parliament and stabbed a police officer before he was shot and injured. The policeman is feared to have since died.

An hour after the attack, paramedics removed a man, thought to be the attacker, from the scene after extensive CPR. Another body appeared to have been left on the ground covered by a red blanket.

A doctor at St Thomas’ Hospital has said one woman has died and a number of others have been hurt – including some with ‘catastrophic’ injuries.

Prime Minister Theresa May is said to have been bundled into a car by a plain-clothes police officer and driven quickly from the scene as the attack unfolded. She will chair a meeting of the Government’s emergency Cobra committee tonight.

Scotland Yard said the attack, which comes a year to the day after the terrorist atrocities in Brussels, is being treated ‘as a terrorist incident until we know otherwise’. DailyMail

‘White People Shouldn’t Breed’: Racist Attacker Spits In Baby’s Face Goes Free

The racially motivated attacker Rezzas Abdulla, spat in the face of a 9-month-old baby and shouted “white people shouldn’t breed”

Rezzas Abdulla approached Rebecca Telford while she was taking her baby Layla-Jean for a stroll in a pram in South Shields last January.

Prosecutor Emma Dowling told Newcastle Crown Court: “He lent into the pushchair and spat into the face of her daughter. As he did so, he shouted or said ‘white people shouldn’t breed.’”

When Telford confronted Abdulla, he told her to “shut the f*** up” and walked off, according to the Daily Mail.

The baby was said to have been covered in saliva. The spit had been “sprayed around” the baby’s face and a shocked passer-by gave Telford a tissue so that she could clean her baby up.

The court heard that Layla-Jean, now almost two, was taken to the doctor for tests after the attack due to fears that she could have contracted TB.

In a victim impact statement, Rebecca told police: “I am completely disgusted and distressed that a grown man, regardless of race or religion, would spit on a defenseless baby in a completely unprovoked attack. If he had just walked by I would not have even noticed him, there was no eye contact and no words had been exchanged. I had never seen him before.”

Abdulla, who has two previous convictions for race-hate attacks on white women, was later tracked down through CCTV.

On Tuesday, he was convicted of racially aggravated common assault after a trial at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court, which he did not attend.

Abdulla was sentenced to eight months imprisonment, suspended for 18 months, with rehabilitation and mental health treatment requirements. RT

He has two previous convictions for race-hate attacks on white women.

Despite previous crimes, Abdulla avoided a jail term on a suspended sentence and instead received rehabilitation and mental health treatment.  The infant’s mother says punishment may have been different if she had abused him.

The judge said “society in general” would be better served if Abdulla was allowed to continue his psychiatric treatment program.

No, society would be better served if Abdulla was jailed or deported.

When a Muslim does a race-based attack, they are suffering from mental problems, but if a white person does it, they are racist.

Muslim + race-based attack = mental illness.
Muslim + terrorist attack = mental illness.
Is Islam a mental illness?

UK Parliament Is Now A Safe Space

The UK Parliament – supposed home of free speech.

Commons Speaker John Bercow, whose post is supposed to be politically neutral, vetoed President Trump addressing Parliament during his state visit to the UK.

Commons Speaker John Bercow has dramatically vetoed President Trump addressing Parliament during his state visit to the UK later this year.

The Speaker was cheered loudly and applauded by MPs after he denounced the President and said he would refuse to invite him to Westminster.

The applause came at the end of a lengthy statement from Mr Bercow in which he said the House of Commons believes in equality and an independent judiciary.

Mr Bercow’s bombshell announcement came in response to a plea from Labour MP Steve Doughty, who has tabled a Commons motion calling on the parliamentary authorities to withhold permission.

Responding to Mr Doughty, Mr Bercow said there was no automatic right for foreign leaders to address Parliament during a visit to the UK, it was an earned honour.

He told MPs: “There are many precedents for state visits to take place to our country which do not include an address to both Houses of Parliament.”  Sky

UK: No More Weekend Changing Of The Guard Ceremonies At Queen’s Windsor Castle Due To Fears Of Terror Attacks

The popular Changing the Guard ceremony at Windsor Castle has been scrapped because of concerns that tourists could be targeted by jihadists carrying out a truck attack.  The guard ceremony is said to be “one of the highlights of a visit to Windsor Castle” and draws the most tourists.

Windsor Castle has cancelled Changing the Guard ceremonies amid fears of a terror attack after devastating incidents in Berlin and Nice last year.

The longstanding tradition will no longer take place on Saturdays due to concerns over the possibility that jihadists could target the thousands of tourists who gather to enjoy the show.

Changing the Guard at Buckingham Palace has also changed to fixed days in order to prevent an attack – with armed police accompanying the guards…

Thames Valley Police ordered top military officials to alter the ceremonial timetable avoid the busiest times in the week in the wake of the Berlin attack.

Troops will now only perform the ceremony on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Security has also been ramped up, with armed police checkpoints and road closures. Express

British Medical Association – Expectant Mothers Are To Be Referred To As ‘Pregnant People’

The British Medical Association is under the delusion that men can get pregnant.

“Transgender people are unfortunately suffering from a significant mental illness that is deeply harmful, and it’s not a solution to pretend that transgender people are the sex that they think they are in their head.  Biology is biology; men can’t magically become women, and women can’t magically become men.”  – Ben Shapiro

First they came for our loos, insisting that it was prejudicial simply to label them ‘Men’ and ‘Women’. Then they came for our children, preaching a gospel of transgender rights in schools and playgrounds.

Now they have come for our wombs, for the precious privilege of calling ourselves mothers. And that, I’m afraid, is a game-changer. This madness must end.

From now on, expectant mothers — in other words pregnant women — are to be referred to as ‘pregnant people’ in order not to offend the sensibilities of members of the transgender community.

What is even more extraordinary is that this is not some half-baked agenda dreamed up by members of a student lobby group, but official new guidance issued by no less an august institution than the British Medical Association.

In a new advisory booklet entitled A Guide To Effective Communication: Inclusive Language In The Workplace, the BMA’s 160,000-odd members are informed that ‘a large majority of people that have been pregnant or have given birth identify as women’.

The idiocy of this statement alone is enough to make my hackles rise. But it gets worse: ‘However, there are some intersex men and trans men who may get pregnant.’

I’m sorry, come again? Yes, that’s right: the BMA is labouring under the delusion that men can become pregnant. (Intersex, by the way, refers to a person born with a reproductive or sexual anatomy that doesn’t fit the typical definitions of female or male.)

This from a supposedly scientific body established almost 200 years ago with the express intention of, among other things, guarding against quackery, is frankly unforgivable.

Because men, it’s a well understood fact, cannot get pregnant. Only women can get pregnant. That is because (and it pains me to have to state the obvious) only women have ovaries and wombs and, therefore, only women have the biological equipment to bear children.

It therefore follows that if a person is pregnant she must by definition be a woman. Granted, she may not wish to be a woman, she may not like being a woman or dress as a woman or style her hair as a woman or even resemble one. She may even be transitioning to become a man — but if she still possesses a functioning womb she is, nonetheless, in biological terms a woman.  DailyMail

Queen’s Chaplain Resigns Over Glasgow Cathedral Koran Reading

Parts of the Koran read from the pulpit in Glasgow Cathedral on the Feast of the Epiphany:

34 That is Jesus, the son of Mary — the word of truth about which they are in dispute.
35 It is not [befitting] for Allah to take a son; exalted is He! When He decrees an affair, He only says to it, “Be,” and it is.
36 [Jesus said], “And indeed, Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. That is a straight path.”

These extra Ayah teach two clear things. First, Jesus is not the son of God and is not divine. Second, Jesus should not be worshipped. These are the two doctrines that were proclaimed from the pulpit in Glasgow Cathedral on the Feast of the Epiphany, the celebration of Jesus being revealed to the nations.VirtualOnline

The Rev Gavin Ashenden resigned as Queen’s chaplain after he defended the faith by speaking up about the Koran reading at Glasgow Cathedral.

He said that he had to make a choice between the “important honour” of continuing in the role of royal chaplain, and having the ability to speak out on matters he felt strongly about…

“I am fairly clear in my own mind that my duty to my conscience, to my order, to my understanding of Christianity and my vocation is that I am supposed to be speaking out in the public space on behalf of the Christ I serve.”

A chaplain to the Queen has resigned after publicly criticising a church that allowed a Koran reading during its service as part of an interfaith project.

The Rev Gavin Ashenden, who until this week was one of the 33 special chaplains to the Queen, said the reading was “a fairly serious error” and one which he had a duty to speak out about.

“There are things we should not tolerate because they are destructive,” he told BBC Radio 4’s Sunday programme.“I don’t accept the rather feeble accusation that intolerance is a bad thing.”

During a service at St Mary’s Episcopal in Glasgow earlier this month to mark the feast of the Epiphany, there was a reading of a passage from the Koran which said that Jesus was not the son of God. Telegraph

In Rare Move, UK Blocks EU Council’s Adoption Of Paris Peace Conference Statement

A decisive attempt by Theresa May to correct her government’s earlier mistake with UN Res. 2334, she sent a low-level functionary to the Paris Peace Conference, in which the UK participated as an observer only, declining to add its signature to the Paris Peace Conference final draft statement and now blocking the EU from adopting the statement.

It also seems PM Theresa May understands the importance of trade deals with Trump in a post-Brexit Britain.

Britain prevented the European Union Foreign Affairs Council from adopting the closing statement from the Paris peace conference.

Britain’s action on Monday, reported by Haaretz citing European and Israeli diplomats, followed a day after Britain refused to sign the closing statement at the conference. Britain had sent a low-level diplomat as an observer to indicate its displeasure with the proceedings.

Australia also distanced itself from the closing statement and did not sign it. JTA

Times of London interview

The Brits read what Trump said and implemented it immediately,’ diplomat tells Haaretz.

What did you think of Obama’s approach towards the UN Security Council resolution on Israel just before Christmas?  I think it was terrible. It should have been a veto. I think it was terrible.

Do you think the UK should have vetoed it?

Well, the UK may have another chance to veto if what I’m hearing is true, because you know you have a meeting as you know, this weekend. And there are a lot of bad stories being circulated. The problem I have is that it makes it a tougher deal for me to negotiate because the Palestinians are given so much — even though it’s not legally binding it’s psychologically binding and it makes it much tougher for me to negotiate. You understand that? Because people are giving away chips, they’re giving away all these chips.

And do you think the UK should veto any UN Security Council resolution on Israel put forward this week so that you are in a stronger position to get the right deal for the Middle East?

Well, I’d like to see the UK veto. I think it’d be great if they veto because I’m not sure the United States is gonna veto, amazingly.

Trump Hails ‘Great’ Brexit And Backs Speedy UK Trade Deal

Now Britain will not have to go to the “back of the queue” after voting for Brexit.

US President-elect Donald Trump on Sunday hailed Brexit as “a great thing” and backed a speedy trade agreement with Britain, in an interview with The Times newspaper.

He also forecast that other countries would follow Britain’s lead in voting to leave the European Union.

“Brexit is going to end up being a great thing,” Trump said of Britain’s referendum vote last June to leave the European Union.

The president-elect said a trade deal with Britain would be “good for both sides”.

“Absolutely, very quickly. I’m a big fan of the UK, we’re gonna work very hard to get it done quickly and done properly,” said Trump, confirming he will meet British Prime Minister Theresa May soon after his inauguration on January 20.

His enthusiasm for a bilateral deal will be welcomed by the British government, which in recent months has been searching for possible trade partners following its planned departure from the EU. London AFP
